I'm supposed to be working right now, so I'm peering out my office door like Golem on the watch. Annaliese, thanks for your response. Usually the latter actually, but sometimes the former. I like to mix in what works, whatever I think engages the reader and prevents him from going comatose. I believe in the power of contrast and tension in writing, so switching styles is a great way to generate contrast and reengage the reader. I will read the piece you left for me.

I am a big fan of some visual works as well. I'm reading House of Leaves, which is a little to overdone and meandering for my tastes, but I do love authors who are willing to take chances, push boundaries, and explore. I think you might like a book: Dhalgren by Samuel R. Delany. Usually I prefer to build my verse right into the sentences but all depends on the needs of the moment.
