In prison you're forced to confront what is right in front of you (which incidentally includes yourself). You don't have access to the distractions we do out here so there's a kind of growth where it concerns patience and mindfulness in the moment. I no longer use social media. I am much better about focusing on daily process now. My interest in immediate gratification has pared way down. I still have my struggles but prison taught me to focus on what I can control and to unburden myself with the rest. I found a quote while I was in and kept it for more than two years. It read: "Do not allow the things you cannot do to stop you from the things you can do." That was my principle guiding maxim. -R
