We need to start having more tough conversations about the cognitive dissonance between what we're witnessing and actually willing to accept. We have such deeply entrenched ideas: a church is supposed to be a safe place? Why? A pastor is supposed to be trustworthy. Why? He's human isn't he? A person in a business suit is supposed to be good. Why? Until we start acknowledging and challenging these ideas we will not be able to stand against the presumptive thoughts that lead to free passes and exceptional thinking.
